Just hours after US Airways Flight 1549 ditched into the Hudson River, Fox Business Channel interviewed Los Angeles aviation attorney and pilot Ronald Goldman for his comments. The Airbus 320 aircraft took off from La Guardia Airport in New York City at 3:26 pm. Moments later the plane struck a flock of birds which disabled both engines causing an emergency landing situation which subsequently led the pilot to do what is called ditching into the Hudson River. Rescue efforts went into effect soon after while the crew of flight 1549 began to evacuate the aircraft. All 155 people survived the incident.
Mr. Goldman comments on the distinction of the pilot and crew in their incredible efforts to perform the emergency procedures calmly and effectively. Although reports of some passengers experiencing hypothermia were rushed to local hospitals, no life-threatening injuries have been reported. Mr. Goldman did explain the possibility of post traumatic stress disorder and how initial reactions to a horrific event such as an airplane crash can change over time.
