Thunderstruck - US Army Aviation

cavhooah asked:

This was an aviation video created by one of the flight school classes at Fort Rucker. The symbol in the lower right hand corner is the (former) branch insignia of the US Army Warrant Officer Corps.

  1. We d beat them down inna flash!

  2. yeah, north korea doesn’t stand a chance

  3. my hubby graduated flight school last year…cool video..they played this for the guys in one of their classes

  4. in the begining the rotating of the wings and the guitar match almost perfectly, awsome!!!!

  5. Going through getting my packet together and studying for AFAST, any and all advice would be welcome. Thanks in advance!

  6. It was just an acrobatic maneuver. If you want videos of an autorotation just search for it.

  7. WOC school is ***.. but just one of those steps you have to go through. Good luck on flight school… I’m just finally getting under way and I’ve been at Mother Rucker for 8 months.

  8. If anything I’d say that’s just a pirhouette. Gyroscopic Procession can’t really be explained by this video. It’s just that any input you make on the rotor system will be felt 90 degrees in the direction of rotation… so if you push down on the right side, the front of the rotor disk will actually tilt downwards in a counter-clockwise rotating rotor system.

  9. ground effect is most pronounced when you’re within 1 wingspan of the ground, even moreso with a half a wingspan. because you’re so close to the ground, vorticies can’t form as well or at all, which is a primary cause of drag. you go closer to the ground, less wingtip vorticies, less drag, higher speed, better lift.

  10. Yeah yeah…148 on my AFAST!!!! Im trying to go WOC!!! Cant wait

  11. And what is the last maneuver? Some sort of autorotation?

  12. At 1:44. What kind of maneuver is that? Im studying for the AFAST and was wondering if that was an example of a gyroscopic precession or anything of that nature

  13. Go tou your local Army recruiter to find all the driteria for becoming a Warrant Officer.

  14. An effect called the “Ground Effect” . The ground effect is when the main airfoil vortices are effect by the ground.

  15. What ground effects are you talking about?..

  16. Oh you don’t know about the ground effect? I am surprised you don’t know about that!

  17. WOCS vs OCS im not sure but im guessing WOCS is harder. but to become a pilot is alot longer of a ride.. Over a year of training before you become a pilot. No im not in the video and no im not a Warrant officer Pilot.. but i am trying to become one. And what ground effect?

  18. Is warrant officer training harder than commissioned officer training? Is that you in this helicopter video? Are you a real pilot. If so can you help explain to me what the ground effect is? I know it is a disruption of the vorticies of the main airfoil but im not sure what happens because of that.

  19. A warrant officer is what you see in this video.
A warrant officer is in charge of Equipment instead of soldiers like a commissioned officer. After you complete Warrant officer school. you then go to WOFT(warrant officer flight training) a 52 week course on how to fly the helicopters and how to maintain. You will learn and need to know your equipment inside and out.. Technical experts.

  20. You don’t?! LOL im not sure what a warrant officer is = ]

  21. You dont have to go to army academy to fly. You become a warrant officer

  22. So how hard was it to get in the army academy?? I want to fly helis too someday.

  23. No, thankfully. Just practiced moving artillery simulated nuclear weapons around. Nothing is as cool as flying over the tree tops with the doors open on a UH-1 Huey. Freaking rush!

  24. Yeah, go your dad!

  25. very nice dude congrats
