Yes, the KLM pilot was a jerk, but this was a visibility accident, the weather played a major if not THE crucial element in this tragedy.

If I couldn’t see the runway exit, I would have driven the plane onto the grass - better than having an airliner come full speed at you…

So true and I agree with you. The reason I think why they made the pilot into ******* on this documentary is because, in my opinion, he was at fault for this disaster. Can you imagine a happy-go-lucky, whistle-while-you-work pilot causing an accident in this magnitude?
